The Driver
Started
racing in 1986 as a hobby. Built my own car which performed
really well, so other racers started asking me to work on
their cars. A hobby then turned into a business in 1988.
I
stopped racing my own car then until 1993, and concentrated
on customers cars. Building car after car that set national
and European records and won numerous championships.
In
1993-1997 I started competing again at sportsman level with
a 1964 Mercury Comet Super Gas car (9/90 index). Due to work
commitments I didn't attend all championship rounds but was
competitive, reaching several rounds, including Hockenheim
Germany Nitro Olympics in 1996 (my car was the one used on
the posters to advertise the 1997 event). The car attracted
huge interest because of its three foot high wheelstands
from the start line!
Also
during this period, customer cars were being built and competing,
amongst them, Wayne Saunders' 4 cylinder 2.21 Ford Probe,
which set a world record for saloon 4 cylinder car of 7.5
secs at 180 mph in 1997. This prompted Ford of Detroit to
commission us to build a Ford Focus in 1999 to compete in
America for 8 weeks and promote the launch of the new Focus in
the U.S.A.
